CM KAMAL NATH, DIGVIJAYA ALLEGE POACHING BID BY BJPAfter senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh alleged that the BJP was tryingto lure MLAs of the ruling Congress by offering them money, Madhya PradeshCM Kamal Nath said on Tuesday that Singh was "telling the truth". He,however, expressed confidence in the stability of his government.In the 230-member Madhya Pradesh Assembly, the Congress has 114 MLAs and theBJP 107. Seven members, including four Independents, one SP and two BSPlegislators, have extended support to the Congress-led government. Two seatsare vacant after a BJP MLA and a Congress MLA died.Singh on Monday claimed in Delhi that the BJP was trying to lure CongressMLAs by offering them huge sums of money. The allegation was denied by BJPleaders, who said the former CM was levelling baseless allegations to remainin the news.Nath alleged that the BJP was trying to poach ruling party legislatorsbecause it was scared that the "scams" during its 15-year rule would beexposed (if the Congress continues in power).Singh has alleged that amounts between Rs 25 crore and Rs 35 crore are beingoffered to Congress MLAs. He has said they were being offered Rs 5 crore nowand the rest in installments after the Rajya Sabha elections and ano-confidence motion to pull down the government. "I want to tell you MP isnot Karnataka, no Congress MLA is up for sale,'' he said, accusing seniorleader and former CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and former minister NarottamMishra of being behind the alleged poaching move.BANGLADESHIS IN BENGAL ARE INDIAN CITIZENS: MAMATAWest Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Tuesday those who havecome to the state from Bangladesh and have been casting votes in electionsare Indian citizens and need not apply for citizenship afresh.Banerjee also slammed the Narendra Modi government for its handling of thecommunal riots in Delhi which have claimed over 40 lives so far, andasserted she will not allow West Bengal to turn into another Delhi."Those who have come from Bangladesh are citizens of India... They have gotcitizenship. You don't need to apply for citizenship again. You have beencasting your votes in elections, electing PM and CM, Assembly, ZilaParishad... Now they are saying that you are not citizens. You all are bonafide citizens of this country," she told a public meeting here.Banerjee also asserted she would not let "even a single person" to be drivenout of Bengal. The West Bengal CM said no refugee living in the state wouldbe deprived of citizenship."You have an address, ration card, voter card, driver's licence. I will not let anybody take awaythe rights of our people," she asserted.'CJI CAN'T EXPRESS HELPLESSNESS'A day after Chief Justice of India (CJI) SA Bobde made a statement that theSupreme Court was not equipped to prevent riots, former Law Minister AshwaniKumar on Tuesday said the highest judicial authority cannot suggesthelplessness in the discharge of duty cast upon by the Constitution."We know that pressure and power are integral to each other, pressure beingthe price of power," Kumar said in a statement."The kind of pressure on us, you should know, we cannot handle that.We alsoread newspapers and the comments which are made. It is like as if the courtis responsible. We wish peace but you know that there are limitations," theCJI had told senior counsel Colin Gonsalves on Monday after the lattersought urgent listing of a PIL seeking FIRs against four BJP leaders forallegedly making inflammatory speeches. However, it had agreed to hear it onWednesday."We are not saying that people should die. That kind of pressure we are notequipped to handle. We cannot stop things from happening. We cannot givepreventive reliefs.
