Cargo ship laden with coal troubled in Kerch Strait, Azov sea

General cargo ship NILA, anchored at outer Kerch Strait anchorage in Azov sea, reported water ingress, possible hull crack, in the morning Oct 10.

The ship is en route from Azov Russia to Giresun Turkey, with 3,000 tons of coal. According to MRCC Kerch, water ingress is under control, ship’s pumps keep water level stable.

Several tugs were sent to assist, NILA lifted anchor and as of 0800 UTC Oct 10, was slowly moving to a safer anchorage in Kerch Strait near Kavkaz port.
